Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI)
Overview:
Introduced in the late 1980s. These medications work by allowing serotonin to stay in between cells longer. This gives the serotonin a better chance to bind to the cells to cause its effects. In some people that effect can be to treat the symptoms of depression.
